Meet the Nomads: Chyng Reyes

chyng reyes

I came across Chyng’s blog while cruising the online world for other travellers. No Spam, No Virus, No Kidding is a travel blog which is light and fun to read. Chyng’s enthusiasm towards travel and towards life is definitely felt as you read thru her blog.

She’s one of the few Filipinas that I know who travels a lot within the Philippines and recently she also backpacked or rather strolled her red luggage around Southeast Asia.

Here’s Flip’s short interview with Chyng.

How did you discover your passion for travelling?

“Im very new to traveling and backpacking. It started late last year when I finally decided to go out of my comfort zone. I erased the idea of traveling is just a vacation and relaxation. Surprisingly, the best trips I’ve done were the ones that involves no easy transportation, no decent accommodation, and no fancy dining. Since then, I long for more adventurous travels.”

What’s the most horrible experience that you’ve had on the road?

“An unexpected solo travel to Ilocos with no sufficient money, no ATM card, and no cellphone in hand. And all of these happened on my birthday! WTF! = Wow That’s Fantastic! ♥”

What’s the most outstanding travel experience that you’ve ever had?

“That very same trip. Some strangers showed extra kindness just when I needed it most: the owner of the resort gave me P500 discount; the vendor of a small eatery gave me a mango for free; and my super tour guide/driver treated me lunch and even paid for my entrance and guide fees for Kabigan Falls. Im so overwhelmed and teary eyed. All misfortunes are indeed blessings in disguise.”

What’s the biggest realization that you’ve got out of travelling?

“Using the expression “wow, Ang ganda! Parang Wala sa Pilipinas!” is definitely not acceptable. Those who still say that are simply unaware of the beauty of country.”

What keeps you going? What keeps you motivated?

“For sure everyone has a craving that needs to be satisfied. It just so happened that mine is traveling.”

This is a silly and hypothetical one. If you would be given a chance to travel with a popular person or a celebrity, who would it be and why?

“Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller). I’d like to use the map tattooed all over his body! That idea is very brilliant. If he isn’t available, then Rico Blanco will be fine.” (blushes)

Where’s your favourite place in this planet and why?

“Definitely the Philippines! With 7,107 islands to explore, I dont think I will run out of interesting adventures to do and breath taking views to see. The place I got very amazed is Mt.Pinatubo Crater Lake. It’s hard to imagine that something that beautiful has caused tragedy to many. Another one is Calaguas. That beach redefined my standard of a good beach.”

What do you think about yourself?

“Im just a newbie who wants to explore more and learn more.”
