On our first day of the boat tour, we spent almost half of the day traveling from Nyaung Shwe to the South of Inle (Sangkar). We also got stranded along the way due to the huge number of water lilies, water hyacinths and other water plants that blocked the river, luckily we were able to pass through (if you want to read about it, click here).
After a few hours of travel, we got rewarded with a gorgeous scenery, beautiful landscape, so many beautiful flowers, sightings of a variety of birds including some herons and some hawks and of course the beautiful temple at the banks of South Inle which is known as Takhaung Mwetaw Paya.
Takhaung Mweta is a temple with so many stupas both old and new. As I was walking around the area, I noticed that a lot of these stupas seemed new and were donated by various people from around the world. There are some inscriptions saying who sponsored for the building the stupa and from which country.
The place was so serene and quiet and we were lucky that we were the only ones in Takhaung Mwetaw. Maybe most of the tourists were still stranded near the wooden bridge where we also got stuck for a couple of hours.
Anyway, enough of my blabbering, here are some pictures of the beautiful Takhaung Mwetaw:

Next Week: Inle Lake Boat Tour Chronicles Part 4 – Floating Ruins of Sangkar

As always I love your photos. I’ve been wanting to shoot Inle lake for a long time. I’ve never been there, though…someday!
Just discovered your blog. Great pics definitely one of the places added to my trips of the future.
