Maha Wizaya Pagoda is not as popular as its neighboring Shwedagon Pagoda but it’s still definitely worth a visit. I didn’t know about Maha Wizaya when I arrived in Yangon however since we walked from Sule Paya to Shwedagon, we passed by this temple and decided to go and explore it.
Maha Wizaya is said to have been built in 1980 and the enshrined relics were given by the King of Nepal. There were numerous locals who visited the pagoda when we were there although we didn’t see any other foreign tourists aside from us.
The ambiance was very relax, laid back and also serene. I spent some time just photographing the structure and enjoying the calmness that surrounds this temple. I didn’t go inside the temple though as there were quite a handful of locals praying inside and I didn’t want to bother them with the clicking sound of my camera.
Here are some pictures of Maha Wizaya Pagoda:

I am not a fan of temples but these photos make me want to love pagodas. 🙂
