My First Impression of Udaipur

On our last day in Jaisalmer, we were contemplating if we’re gonna head straight to Udaipur from Jaisalmer via an overnight bus or cut the trip by stopping at Jodhpur. But since our skin were burnt to the crisp, we decided not to spend the night on a bus with a terrible sunburn and instead went back to the nice hostel we stayed in Jodhpur.

From Jodhpur (after staying for a few days), we took another bus to Udaipur. It was raining when we arrived in Udaipur which was a welcome relief to our skin that got used to the dry and sunny air of Jaisalmer. We took a rickshaw afterwards en route to our hostel near the lake.

If you’re going to Udaipur in a short time and would like to maximize your time, I do suggest that you stay near the lakes since it’s where the most attractions are located.

We spent a few days in Udaipur before we left for Chennai and overall I find it a very charming city (especially the area near the lake). There were temples, a lot of hostel have a rooftop so you could have a nice view of the lake.

There were coffee shops, lots of clothing boutiques and souvenir shops, leather craft shops and restaurants of course.

Here are some pictures that I took in Udaipur:

One thing that I noticed as well in Udaipur (in the lakeside area) is that a lot of restaurants are showing James Bond Movies and I found out that it was because Octopussy was filmed in Udaipur.

Oh, and before I forget, when in Udaipur, try to eat at the restaurant near the lakeside with a great view of the Lake palace, they serve delicious food. ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Oh Udaipur! One of my favorite places in India. Too bad we had only stayed there for 2 days. I’m planning to go back to India to explore other areas like Jodhpur.

  2. FlipNomad, those are some really nice photographs. Where are those wall sculptures from? I visited Udaipur last to last year, but didn’t come across those. And here I was complacently thinking I had seen all the beautiful places. Check out my account of the trip: http://why.travel/asia/what-to-do-on-a-holiday-to-udaipur/

  4. Amazing photos. It sounds like a really interesting place. I really love how colourful the wall mural near the ghats is- very vibrant. Great blog, keep it up!

  1. […] Udaipur is a nice clean city (compare to to her Indian cities that we’ve been to) that is more beautiful at night than during the day (especially near the lake). The Lake Palace is so stunning that I just spent some time staring at it from the rooftop of our hostel. […]
