Meet the Nomads – Savi and Vid of Bruised Passports

If you are both passionate with travel and fashion then this blog is for you. Savi and Vid created a blog that will not only document their travels but at the same time, the clothes that they have worn in those places. Savi and Vid did a great job in conquering this niche and I have to say that they would probably be the first travel blog that I know that writes about fashion and travel at the same time.

Savi has a PhD in visual arts and literature and believes that what you wear is an expression of your personality. Vid is a photography enthusiast who captures awesome pics using his Nikon D80.

Meet the Nomads - Savi and Vid of Bruised Passports

How did you discover your passion for travelling?

“We think it was the first time the two of us took a trip together – Thailand, circa 2007. Discovering new cultures is always exciting, but travelling together made it irresistible. Ever since we’ve covered 37 countries and over 200 cities, and we fall a little more in love with travelling every day.”

What’s the most horrible experience that you’ve had on the road?

“We’ve had a number of misadventures on the road- from sprained ankles to funky-tasting street food, we’ve suffered it all. The one that took the cake was a faulty GPS during our epic road trip through Croatia. It led us into a labyrinthine forest – instead of turning back, we went deeper and deeper into the woods till there was no turning back. Lesson learnt – be prudent, not adventurous when dealing with faulty GPS’s.”

What’s the best travel experience that you’ve ever had?

“We’ve been fortunate to have some amazing experiences on the road. It’s tough to pick one but we find it hard to forget the amazing people we met on our visit to a township in Johannesburg – it was the highlight of our trip to South Africa.”

What’s the biggest realization that you’ve got out of travelling?

“Life is too short to be spent worrying about accumulating material possessions. It should be about crazy adventures, amazing people, sumptuous memories, and deep kisses.”

What keeps you going? What keeps you motivated?

“Moments of epiphany cannot be planned but leave an indelible impression keep us motivated. The feeling of witnessing a fabulous sunset, reaching the top of a mountain after a long hike, chancing on spectacular ruins, discovering amazing street food in a sleepy village is second to none.”

This is a silly and hypothetical one. If you would be given a chance to travel with a popular person or a celebrity, who would it be and why?

“Ermm had to think long and hard about this one because neither of us are celebrity-struck in the least. Having said that, we would love to travel with Joe Satriani or Ben Gibbard. What can we say – we like our trips to have the perfect soundtrack :-)”

Where’s your favourite place in this planet and why?

“I think we’d have to pick Lanzarote (Spain) – stunning scenery, gorgeous beaches, delicious food – Lanzarote has it all. We can’t get enough of Spain – we’ve spent so much time there, but still can’t stop ourselves from going back every once in a while.”

What’s your best tip for newbie traveler?

“Travel slowly – devour every bit of a place before you move on to the next.”

What’s the silliest thing you’ve ever done while traveling?

“A self-drive safari at Addo National Park – it seemed like a good idea till a herd of elephants came charging towards us, all set to trample our little Chevy Spark. We did not turn back, instead we waited to get spectacular shots of the animals up close. Silly? Yes! Would we recommend it? Absolutely!”

How do you keep yourself safe on your travels?

“We try to read about places before visiting them. The internet is the best place to educate oneself about popular kinds of scams. When one is in a new place, it’s easy to get excited about exploring, but we always let (or at least try to let) common sense prevail.”

What do you think about yourself?

Savi: I’m a bit of an urban gypsy- a confluence of my travels. I despise conventionality and I love color, mismatched socks, and messy hair. Those are just some of the things I blog about in the ‘Wears’ section of our blog

Vid: I’m an instinctive rebel and a coffee geek, not always in that order. I love photography and enjoy telling stories with my photos.
