Meet the Nomads - Kenin and Lauren Bassart of The Constant Rambler

How did you discover your passion for traveling?

“We have always loved going for drives together. Every time we had a weekend free we would get in the car and see a new city. The drives just kept get longer and longer.”

What’s the most horrible experience that you’ve had on the road?

“We were driving through Northern Canada in the early winter on our way to Alaska. We made the mistake of not booking a hotel in advance. When we arrived to the only pet-friendly hotel in the area ( for easily 100 miles in each direction) all the rooms were booked. We ended up sleeping in the car even though it was only about 10 degrees outside and there was ice and snow everywhere. We had to snuggle together to keep warm and start the car every hour or so to keep from freezing.”

What’s the best travel experience that you’ve ever had?

“We were in Spain when they won the World Cup in 2010. We were watching the game from a bar directly on the beach. When they won, the entire city poured out into the streets for a huge party. We found ourselves marching in an impromptu parade with thousands of strangers yelling and cheering. The party went all night and into the following day. It was awesome!”

What’s the biggest realization that you’ve got out of traveling?

“We don’t ever want to be settled in one place on the earth. The world is big and full of wonders and we want to see them all.”

What keeps you going? What keeps you motivated?

“There is always something new to see. We like getting to know different people from different cultures. Learning new things and seeing new places keeps us going.”

This is a silly and hypothetical one. If you would be given a chance to travel with a popular person or a celebrity, who would it be and why?

“We wouldn’t mind traveling with Anthony Bourdain. He appreciates good food and different cultures. He also curses like a sailor.”

Where’s your favourite place in this planet and why?

“We like moving vehicles! Planes, trains, automobiles, ships… if it can get us to a different destination, then we are happy.”

What’s your best tip for newbie traveler?

“Slow down and talk to the locals.”

What’s the funniest and silliest thing you’ve ever done while traveling?

“Do a Google image search “Jello Shot New Orleans” and we will show up several times…including photo numero uno!”

What do you think about yourself?

“We are very easy going people. We like talking to everyone. We like pets and cars and nature. We’ve found that if you give people the opportunity they will usually come through for one another. We try to live that philosophy and help people whenever we can.”

The Constant Rambler

“TheConstantRambler is about our different adventures while we travel. We try to mix it up a bit and share tips, stories, and reviews about more than just the destinations we visit. We also talk about our dogs a lot because they are a very important part of our lives. Our ultimate goal is to use our blog to inspire and help others to travel the world and live out their dreams.” – Kenin and Lauren Bassart
