How I Could Travel For a Long Time

I’ve been on the road for more than a year now and had travelled in China, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia and now in India and I often meet people who ask me how I could travel for a long time.

I often give them a brief explanation of earning online but the core of what I do is basically about one thing…

I use my TIME effectively.

As I’ve repeatedly mentioned in my blog, I don’t have much money to work on. It’s basically enough to keep me afloat. I also don’t have an online/offline job nor a huge savings to depend on. A portion of my earning is also sent back to my parents. What I use is what I earn as I go along the way.

But since I left my job to pursue my life’s passion, I do have a lot of one thing… I do have a lot of TIME in my hand.

I have 24 hours in a day wherein I allot half of it doing what I like and half of it adhering to the basic needs of survival like sleeping and eating.

How I Could Travel For a Long Time

Here are some basics on how I use time to help me travel and live the life that I want:

1. I Spend my Time Reading Things that Have Value for Me: This is a relative thing since all of us are passionate about a variety of stuff. Since I’m earning online, I read a lot of travel blogs to learn a variety of writing styles. I also read about a lot of other niche blogs to help me learn more about the technicality of blogging and to keep myself updated with the changes of this industry.

2. I Spend my Time Applying What I’ve Learned: There’s no use in spending time learning stuff that I won’t use. Learning is just like winning half the battle, the other half is executing the knowledge gained. Learning and doing is the only way to improve.

3. I Spend my Time Asking How: I’ve stopped asking why others can do this and why I can’t. I started asking “How I Could Do This” instead. And because of that mentality I made this lifestyle a possibility for me.

4. I Spend my Time Communicating with People: I spend some time talking to people that I’ve met in my travels. I could not believe how much I’ve learned from them. I also spend my time collaborating small projects with people I’ve met online which helped me improve the way I do things.

5. I Spend Less Time Whining: I have only one life to live and I promise myself to stop complaining and become the change that I want to see instead. I don’t intend to change the world but I do like to change the way I live my life for the better.

6. I Spend My Time Sharing What I’ve Learned: I’ll die just like everyone else and it’ll be a waste not to share the things that I have learned in this short life. And because of this, other people are also not hesitant to share the things that they’ve learned which further help me achieve other things that I like.

7. I Spend my Time Trying: I spend my time trying the things that I like. I spend my time writing, taking pictures and soon becoming an entrepreneur. I also try things that have small chances of success like getting visas etc. I’ll try the things that I like to do regardless if I fail. And I’ll try repeatedly until it becomes successful. You wouldn’t know unless you try. Cliche but true!

8. I Spend my Time Maximizing the Value of What I Do: I learned this when I was still employed. I figured that everyone, from the low ranking employee, to middle management up to the executive level spends a considerable amount of time working just to earn money. I realized that if I would spend 12 hours working, I’d rather spend it with the highest possible returns instead. The same fundamentals that I follow now even in blogging and travelling. I spend most of the time in activities that would create a better return on the time I’ve invested.

9. I Spend My Time Removing Clutter in My Life: I spend an ample time removing the things that don’t have value in my life. And because of this act, I have more time focusing on things that continuously help me achieve the things that I want like travelling.

10. I Spend My Time Staying Positive and Motivated: Achieving ones dream is difficult. It’s not a walk in the park. An important factor in making sure that I stay on track is to keep myself positive and motivated. I also try to share my motivation through my blog to cheer on those who want to do the same thing.

Time is the biggest resource that YOU and I have.

If you’ll be able to harness this resource effectively by removing the non-value and focusing on the things that has value, you’ll be able to achieve most of the things that you want in life.

Life is too short not to enjoy every single day of it! 🙂

How about you? How do you spend your time? Is it align to what you want to achieve in the long run?

It’s my first comment :). I’ve been reading your blog for a long time (even when I have no blog yet). I get to know your site from yahoo travel news. 18. Very inspiring Flip!

My friend Doi of TheTravellingFeet.com recommended your blog a few months ago but it’s just now that I really started reading your past articles. So far, I can see a similarity between us as to where I want to go a few years from now.

I quit my day job last Monday and now I’m giving entrepreneurship another try.
I’ve had businesses before but most of it failed mainly because of my lack of discipline in handling my finances.

Aside from finishing my bachelor’s degree, the only thing I’m focusing now is online entrepreneurship. With little money on hand, the only thing I have is time. I hope I can effectively use it just like you.

Keep on travelling Flip! You’re an inspiration to wanderers like me.
