Meet the Nomads – Alexandra Kovacova

Alexandra is the blogger behind CrazySexyfunTraveler.com. I got introduced to her blog when she contacted me before her trip to the Philippines. Alex left her job and embarked last 2011 on a 12-month trip to 14 countries and if you’re planning of doing an RTW, you’ll definitely find her blog a great resource.

Get to know more about Alex and visit her blog at Crazy Sexy Fun Traveler.

Here’s my short interview with Alex.

Meet the Nomads - Alexandra Kovacova

How did you discover your passion for travelling?

“I think I was still a child, I kept saying I was going to move out of Slovakia at the age of 18 and just travel and do nothing. And that’s what I did :)”

What’s the most horrible experience that you’ve had on the road?

“I think it was when my laptop was stolen in Playa del Carmen, Mexico with all my photos from 3 months in Mexico. It was exactly the day when I was about to buy a hard drive and back up all my stuff. I was so pissed and sad like never before. I don’t want this to happen ever again.”

What’s the best travel experience that you’ve ever had?

“Hmmm, there are too many, but if I have to choose just one, then it’s the people I meet and we make friends and keep in touch for long. I’m a very sensitive person so for me it’s all about feelings which means I need people around me all the time. So I’m happy to meet so many cool people on the road.”

What’s the biggest realization that you’ve got out of travelling?

“It’s not the money but time what you need to travel. And guts to do so, too. Of course, there are good and bad people, good and bad days and not everything is going to be the way you plan it but it all belongs to traveling and it all teaches you lessons.”

What keeps you going? What keeps you motivated?

“If I don’t travel for a couple of days, I feel frustrated. I need at least day trips if nothing else. I don’t actually need a lot of motivation, I just keep checking the photos of around the world and during one trip I plan the following one already.”

This is a silly and hypothetical one. If you would be given a chance to travel with a popular person or a celebrity, who would it be and why?

“Probably Paul Wesley. I met him in person already and he is the funniest guy ever so I wouldn’t get bored … and he said he would love to travel with me haha … I just love this guy! Ok, gotta watch another Vampire Diaries episode right now (and no, I’m not a 13-year-old silly fan) :)”

Where’s your favourite place in this planet and why?

“If I have to say a country, then it is Mexico. It has always been my favourite country even years before I visited. And then if speaking in general, it’s any white sandy beach with clear water, and a good wifi where I can relax properly.”

What’s the funniest and silliest thing you’ve ever done while travelling?

“Nothing comes to my mind, I try not to do silly things, but crazy things are there every day. You have to travel with me to find out.”

What’s your best tip for newbie traveller?

“They just should start travelling right now and do not wait for a better time because it can never come. It is one of the biggest cliches but so true! Don’t be scared, the world is there for you and you will love it!”

What do you think about yourself?

“I think I am funny and nice to people who deserve it. Or at least I try to be. And I would do anything for those I love. But if there is something illogical or unfair happening, I don’t bite but I do get furious so run away from me … especially stupid people :D”
