El Nido is another popular destination which is often compared to Coron, another tourist spot here in Palawan. I think I like El Nido more because there’s a cool and laidback vibe that will make anyone stay longer than usual. Another difference would probably be the availability of clean beach in the town proper itself, unlike in Coron which needs to clean up their waterfront.
El Nido also boasts a dramatic seascape that will surely leave anyone at awe. I used to think that Maya Beach in Koh Phi Phi Leh is the most beautiful cove that I’ve ever seen but now I think it’s the numerous amazing coves you’ll find in El Nido.
There are various ways on getting here in El Nido. The most comfortable, fastest but a little expensive way is to fly here from Manila via Seair. There is another airline that flies to El Nido but I’m not sure if they only offer chartered flights (check out ITI Air).
Another option is to fly to Puerto Princesa and take a 5-6 hour van ride or 7-8 hour bus ride. The bus ride takes longer since it picks up passengers along the way.
Alternatively, you can also fly to Coron and then take a ferry to El Nido. It will cost you around P2200.
There’s a ferry service that brings passengers to El Nido from Manila and vice versa via Josille I & II. The cost is around P1000 and the travel time is around 28 hours.
Local Transportation is a tricycle that can take you from one baranggay to another you wouldn’t need it though in exploring the town proper of El Nido since it’s really small.

There’s a variety of accommodation that will suit everyone’s budget. The cheapest that I saw is around P500/night in El Nido town proper. Lodgings are a bit cheaper in Bgy. Corong Corong which is just a stone throw away from the town proper. If you want to stay longer, ask around for those renting out their spare rooms (this is the cheapest option).
Money
There is not ATM in sight so you better carry enough cash that will last you throughout your entire stay. There’s Western Union though so in case you run out of money, you can ask your friends ofr family to send you money.
Health and Safety
El Nido’s tourism industry is booming and a lot of people flock here especially during summer. There’s only one health center in the town and one Physician/Surgeon (Dr. Nestor Reyes) in Bgy. Corong Corong. I think the government needs to build a small hospital here to serve the locals and tourists alike.
There’s a Philippine National Police (PNP) office in the town in case you have any security issues.
Visa Extension
Most foreign tourists process their visa extension in Puerto Princesa.
Nightlife
Nightlife is a bit reserve compare to Boracay because shops closes at 12 Midnight except for a few shops including Asylum, the only disco house in town. There are a variety of bars and videoke joints in case you want to party ‘til midnight.
El Nido is another destination that can be accessed cheaply as well. This is one place that everyone should include in their itinerary when you go to the Philippines.

Wow, beautiful does not seem to describe El Nido! I have not been but can see that it would be most enjoyable way to spend a few days.
