Make Your Holiday an Event

When the sun starts to shine here in the UK, many of us turn our attentions to holidays, and although the weather here can be great, it’s unpredictable, so many of us are looking to long-haul destinations to get our annual dose of vitamin D.

Our lives can be stressful, we’re working longer hours for less pay, so our yearly holiday can provide a much needed break and a chance for us to re-charge our batteries, spend time with loved ones, refuel and revitalise ready for the rest of the year ahead.

Gone are the days when we were happy with a package holiday to Spain or France for a week; many of us are looking further afield for our ‘main event’ holiday to guarantee better weather, experience different cultures and get a taste of the exotic.

Sunbathing aside, most holiday-makers have changed their requirements in terms of holiday settings, and want more from a week or fortnight away than just baking on a beach. Most want to get the balance between sightseeing and sunbathing just right, and with this in mind companies such as Hayes and Jarvis have carefully put together a diverse selection of affordable, long-haul escapes to destinations that offer much, much more than just great beaches.

Before deciding on your ‘event’ holiday, it’s important to think about what you’re looking for. If you want a combination of beach life, sight-seeing and water sports there are a number of locations that fit the bill. Holidays to Mexico provide the intrepid traveller with a range of beach and sightseeing options to consider.

The Yucatan Peninsula, with the glistening shores of the Caribbean on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other, offers the perfect holiday balance. Resorts such as Cancun and Playcar provide sun-worshippers with miles of glorious coastline to explore, a host of water-sports and hotels galore.

But that’s just the start, venture outside of the resorts and Mexico is waiting to be discovered; there are mystical Mayan ruins to explore, natural treasures to enjoy, and a culture that is rich and vibrant to immerse yourself in.

Sightseeing options include Cozumel where you’ll find the ancient Mayan city of Tulum and the mysterious pyramid of Chichen Itza, another must-see attraction well worth visiting. Mexico City is also worth considering, either as a holiday base or excursion; here you can enjoy the buzz and atmosphere of the world’s third largest city which offers a host of architectural sights and museums, hip hotels and an eclectic café culture.

Holidays to Mauritius, in contrast, provide a more laid-back venue for your holiday adventure, with the emphasis on beautiful scenery, outdoor adventure and relaxation.

Aside from the glorious beaches which offer a host of opportunities for diving and snorkelling, there are a number of active pursuits to enjoy in this Indian Ocean retreat. The gentle mountains and deep gorges provide a wealth of opportunities for hiking and trekking allowing visitors to enjoy the true beauty of the island.

Golf is another popular pursuit with various courses peppered around the island offering greens suitable for both beginners and experienced golfers. There are also activities such as boat trips and deep-sea fishing so plenty of options for those who like to take a break from their sun-lounger every now and again, and enjoy the location in which they are staying.

Long-haul holidays needn’t break the bank, and whilst you may prefer to find a cheap week in Europe, you’ll miss out on a whole world of experiences that provide so much more than just sunshine.

So if you want your next holiday to be less predictable, more memorable and more of an experience – think outside the box, and think long-haul escapes.
